Linux can reduce your company’s TCO. The bottom line is always important and reducing the total cost of ownership of your computer is always a good thing. One of the reasons Linux TCO is less is because most of the software for Linux is free. In a typical office setting, software vendors such as Microsoft like to update their products once a year or so. If you choose not to buy the newer version, then at some point the software vendor will usually render the old software incompatible with the new version. This puts the company using the software into a tough spot. Buy the new stuff or use the old, incompatible version.

This upgrade or die game is not an issue with Linux. There is no real advantage for, say, Open Office, to make upgrades that render former versions obsolete. Here, the end-user experience is foremost in the developers mind, not on how can we generate more revenue.

So how does a Linux software company make money? Usually with paid support options. Large companies obtain and use Linux and Open Office for free, but will need paid support and training as with paid for software.

Linux is also a great alternative because it runs quite well on older hardware. Again, while paid-for, non-free software is constantly (oftentimes needlessly) growing larger and pushing the limits of current hardware, so that buying new software usually means having to buy new hardware to use it, Linux runs quite happily on just about any old computer running XP. The non-free software vendors tend to upgrade often whether the software is actually getting better or not. Just add something new so we can charge for it. And by all means make it very hardware and cpu intensive so end-users will be forced to upgrade hardware as well. It’s a vicious cycle in the Windows world. Not so in Linux.

Most would-be Linux converts complain that there just isn’t any software for Linux. There is a ton of great software for Linux. Is there Photoshop? No. Excel? No. Word? No. But Linux has excellent alternatives to just about everything. There really isn’t much a Linux computer can’t do. The Gimp is an excellent, advanced image editing package that while not as featured as Photoshop, really gives it a run for its money. For 3D, there’s Blender. Open Office is a great Word and Excel replacement. Open Office can open and edit most Word and Excel documents.

A Linux file system is a collection of various files and folders, which is stored in a separate disk partition. The entire disk partition is divided into various file system blocks, which are used for storing either the user data or the metadata. The metadata can be referred as the repository that contains the information of the file system.

One such metadata structure is the superblock, which is very essential for the health of the Linux system. A file system cannot be mounted if you are not able to access the superblock. This case arises if the superblock is corrupted that can happen because of various reasons such as virus infections, power outages, file system corruption, human errors, etc. In such cases, you should take appropriate corrective measures to recover the file system. If you are not able to resolve the issue, then you should use a third-party Linux data recovery software to perform data recovery of Linux system.

Consider a scenario wherein you have an ext3-partitioned Linux system. When you try to access the partition, you are not able to do so. An error message is displayed, that is:

“/dev/sda2: Input/output error

mount: /dev/sda2: can’t read superblock”

Cause:

The cause of this error message is that the superblock has corrupted because of the aforementioned reasons.

Resolution:

You can restore the primary superblock from the various backup copies that the Linux system maintains for such situations. To do this, you need to perform the following steps:

Find out superblock location for /dev/sda2

Check and repair the Linux file system using alternate superblock # xyz, where xyz is the location of the alternate superblock.

Mount file system using mount command viz, # mount /dev/sda2 /mnt

Try to browse and access the file system.

However, if you still are unable to address the situation, then you should use a third-party Linux data recovery software to perform Linux recovery. Such tools are read-only in nature and perform Ext3 Recovery without overwriting the original data.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery software is a Data Recovery for Linux software that enables you to perform Linux data recovery for various file system volumes. Apart from ext3 recovery, it is capable of performing ext2 recovery and ext4 recovery. In addition, this Linux recovery tool recovers data from various types of hard drives such as SCSI, SATA, EIDE, and IDE. It supports different Linux distributions such as Red Hat, SUSE, Debian, Caldera, Mandrake, Sorcerer, TurboLinux, Slackware, Gentoo, etc. It is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003, XP, and Server 2000.

Sometimes when you try to install device drivers on your Linux system, you might fail to do it. It could be due to incompatibility of the operating system Kernel with your device driver or device.

To work around this issue, you need to install the latest version of Linux kernel. It may include ‘forcedeth’ patch, which is capable of resolving most of the incompatibility issues.

In some cases, after installing the latest version of Kernel, when you reboot the Linux system, you might face the following error message:

“fsck.ext2: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hda8. The super block could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 file system. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 file system (and not swap or ufs or something else) then the super block is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate super block: e2fsck -b 8193 <device> fsck failed.”

After this error message, neither the system boots nor any file can be accessed.

Grounds of the issue

As stated in the error message, this problem generally occurs due to super block corruption or file system corruption.

è Super block and file system are two most important data structure of Linux system. Proper functioning of both these is required for ensuring effective working of the system.

After corruption, the operating system could not locate the file and thus can not retrieve it.

Resolution

To work around this problem, you need to install a fresh copy of super block and file system. It is possible through formatting of the hard drive and reinstallation of operating system.

Though, it will remove the errors but will also erase all the data stored on your hard drive. It is the worst scenario of data loss and needs Linux data recovery to get it fixed.

Linux data recovery is feasible with the application of third party Linux recovery software known as Linux data recovery software. Linux recovery software is easy to use and thus allow you to have simple and fast data recovery Linux.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most advanced Linux recovery software offered by the data recovery giant- Stellar. This data recovery Linux software works well in all data loss cases and allows Linux data recovery for all sorts of files.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery software is powerful enough to carry out efficient scanning of entire hard drive and extract all lost data from it. The user interface of this software is very interactive and thus does not require any sound technical knowledge from users’ side.

HTML clipboard

Superblock is the most significant component of a Linux volume that restrains critical information about files and folders in file systems as ext2, ext3 and more. It enables us to mount and access the file systems. Superblock corruption primarily occurs due to metadata structure damage, file system corruption, unexpected system shutdown, malicious software like virus and more.

In most cases of superblock corruption, the volume becomes unmountable and the data becomes inaccessible. In such situations, you can restore the lost data using an updated backup. However, if you have not maintained any backup or it is not up-to-date, then you need to recover your data by using advanced Linux Data Recovery tools.

Consider a practical scenario, when you attempt to boot your Linux system, you encounter the below error message:

“Wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda8, missing codepage or helper program, or other error. In some cases useful info is found in syslog – try dmesg | tail or so”

After running dmesg tail, you encounter the below error message:

“Couldn’t mount because of unsupported optional features (2000200)”

After the above error message appears, the system becomes unmountable and data stored on the hard drive volume becomes inaccessible. Additionally, you encounter the same error message each time you attempt to boot your system.

Cause:

The main reason behind occurrence of the above error message is superblock corruption.

Resolution:

To resolve the problem and access all inaccessible data, you need to follow these steps:

1. Boot your system by using an alternate block by running the below command:

e2fsck -b 98304 /dev/hdb8

2. Once the file system gets restored to the point at which it can be mounted, you need to fix it by using this command:

e2fsck -c /dev/hda8

-c parameter checks for the bad blocks

However, if the above steps are not able to resolve the issue, you should consider reinstalling Linux. A clean Linux reinstall will erase all existing data from the selected volume. For complete recovery of lost data, you should use efficient Linux Data Recovery software.

Such Linux Recovery tools incorporate effective scanning algorithms to recover all your lost data. These recovery tools provide highly graphical user interface that makes them easily understandable without prior technical knowledge. These tools recover data post situations like superblock corruption, group descriptor faults, inode table damage and more.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the foremost Linux Recovery tool. It supports recovery from Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS file system based Linux volumes. This Data Recovery Linux tool gets installed on Windows (Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000) and the affected Linux drive is connected as slave.

Are you facing “Read-only file system” error while booting your Linux computer? Does your system refuse to boot up in dual-boot configuration with Microsoft Windows operating system? When you encounter this behavior, system can not boot up and your data becomes inaccessible. At the same time, system may stop responding and you need to perform hard reboot. This overall behavior leads to significant data loss on your Linux system and need Linux Data Recovery to be sorted out.

In order to try fixing this issue on your Linux computer, identify the root cause of this problem. You may come across such circumstances due to any of the below reasons:

Damaged or corrupted file system

Improper unlock addresses for the LPC (Low Pin Count) flash chip

Hard drive failure

Linux automatically re-mounts the file system as read-only, if a hard drive failure takes place. In order to detect the affected system component and fix it, go through the underwritten steps:

To check error, integrity, and consistency of file system, unmount it first. If you can not unmount the file system, being root file system, force file system check at next reboot. If you find that file system is corrupted, hard drive formatting is required to rebuild or replace the damaged file system.

Run fsck command-line utility on the affected Linux hard drive. It is an in-built tool of Linux operating system, which lets you repair a number of issues with inode structure, data blocks, directory structures and more.

If hard drive failure is the problem, format hard drive, reinstall operating system, and restore data from the most recent backup.

Formatting is the process of creating a new copy of all the hard drive data structures, including file system. It removes every type of errors from the hard drive and make it as a new drive, deleting all the data, applications, and even operating system from it.

This process causes severe data loss, if the backup is not in place. In such conditions, Linux Recovery come for your rescue. You can carry out safe, quick, and easy Data Recovery Linux through third-party recovery applications.

Such tools are known as Linux Recovery Software. They use advanced scanning techniques to perform thorough scan of data loss affected hard drive and carry out absolute recovery in most of the logical data loss situations.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most effective and powerful application to retrieve lost Linux data. It recovers data from Ext4, Ext3, Ext2, FAT12, FAT16, and FAT32 file system volumes. The software works well with all major distributions of Linux operating system, including Red Hat, SUSE, Ubuntu, and Fedora.

In Linux operating system, fsck is a useful utility that helps you to check file system integrity and fix the errors. It is helpful particularly in case of file system corruption, dirty system shutdown and operating system related issues. When improper system shutdown happens, fsck runs when you reboot the system and check file system integrity. But if fsck process gets terminated due to improper system shutdown or power failure, you might come across serious data loss issues. In such circumstances, you are required to opt for effective and powerful Linux Data Recovery solutions.

In a practical scenario where fsck process gets interrupted due to power outage, when you restart the system, all of your hard drive volumes are found to be inaccessible. It cause critical data loss situations. When you try to sort out the problem by using fdisk command on Linux hard drive, you see following message: “Warning: invalid flag 0×0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite) Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/hdb: 203.9 GB, 203928109056 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System Command (m for help):”

Cause

As stated in the above error message, the problem is caused by corruption to partition table. It is an important data structure of Linux operating system that stores important information about hard drive partitions/volumes. It is a 64-byte table, which store four partition entries, 16 byte for each. Damage to the partition table means your operating system could not locate partitions on hard drive and thus can not access them. In other means, you need to carry out Data Recovery Linux for fixing this issue.

Resolution

In order to work around this issue, you need to format the hard drive and reinstall Linux operating system. It will replace the damaged partition table with new one, after that system will work perfectly. But formatting the drive would remove all the data from it and you face serious data loss situations. Linux Recovery in such situations is possible using commercial Linux Data Recovery software. The applications are completely safe and easy to use and perform absolute recovery in most of the data loss situations. Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most comprehensive solution for all types of data loss situations. It recovers lost data from Ext4, Ext3, Ext2 and ReiserFS file system volumes. The application is usable with all major distributions of Linux operating system.

In Linux operating system, you can re-size the hard drive volumes with preservation of your critical data stored on the volume, using Gparted utility. It can also be used for creating, moving and removing hard drive volumes. In some situations, resizing the hard drive volume might cause serious problems of data loss. Unsuccessful operation of disk resizing might render the disk volumes and stored data inaccessible. In these cases, you are required to opt for effective and powerful Linux Data Recovery software to get all of the missing, lost and inaccessible data. In a practical scenario, when you resize the hard drive volumes using Gparted utility in Linux, read/write operation may halt it and the hard drive might not mount.

When you try to access data from the affected hard drive, you come across a number of error messages. In such situations, if you run fsck command to detect and repair errors, it does not detect any problem and you encounter further error messages. The error message can be similar to the following one: At this point, your Linux system does not boot up and thus you can not access the stored data form hard drive. In these circumstances, you need to find out the cause of this issue and go for Data Recovery Linux to retrieve lost data.

Cause of this problem

This issue generally occurs due to corruption to the Superblock. It is one of the most critical database of your Linux operating system. The above error message indicates that your file system is severely damaged and thus the system can not work.

Resolution

The Linux operating system keeps redundant copies of superblock. You can use any of them to sort out the problem. You can search alternative superblock using ‘mkfs -n’ command. If you are unable to replace damaged superblock or the problem is with file system, you can go for hard drive formatting and operating system reinstallation. The process will replace all the damaged system resources and install a clean file system. Though above process can resolve the current problem, but it also has a drawback. Formatting the hard drive removes all of the data from it and cause critical data loss situations.

In these cases, you require Linux Data Recovery to handle the situation. Recovery is best possible using third part Linux Recovery software. The applications use high-end scanning techniques to thoroughly scan the affected drive and retrieve all of the lost, missing and inaccessible data. They are quite easy and safe to use. Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most excellent solution for all your Linux data loss problems. It supports recovery from Ext4, Ext3, Ext2 and ReiserFS file system volumes. The software is compatible with all major Linux distributions including RedHat, Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu.

When you try to shut down your Kubuntu Linux system, using KDE (K Desktop Environment), KDE seems to shut down your computer without any issue, but then your screen becomes black and your system freezes without showing any error messages and getting towards shut down. In this case, you have to press reset button and do hard reboot.

KDE is a free desktop environment for Linux computers. The objective of this software is to give basic desktop features for daily needs of users as well as documentation and tools for developers to design stand alone applications for their systems.

After this behavior, when you restart your computer, you have to use fsck command for checking hard drive. It can recognize various errors related to file system and other disk data structures.

After this problem, you might experience two types of behavior, depending upon the effects of a hard reboot and severity of damage:

All the system settings may get lost with basic ones like desktop wallpaper, styles and taskbar layout. You may also lose other things like Kmail accounts, Kaddress book, Kopete settings, Amarok settings and sometimes your KDE Wallet (tool to store passwords on KDE system) gets corrupted.

fsck can’t fix the errors and your system does not boot up. You can not access data from your hard drive and thus encounter the daunting situations of data loss.

In case of data loss, you need to opt for linux data recovery to save your critical data. In such scenarios, Linux Data Recovery is possible through Linux Recovery software.

Linux Recovery software are specifically designed to scan your hard drive, locate the lost, missing or inaccessible data and recover it. You can easily use these software without any prior sound technical knowledge.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most comprehensive and commanding linux recovery tool that ensures efficient Data Recovery Linux in all cases of data loss. It supports recovery from Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS file system based Linux volumes. It is compatible with most of the Linux distributions including Kubuntu.

Most people purchase computers to run programs – whether it is to send email, browse the web, meet friends of girlfriends on msn messenger, do office work or just play solitaire.

People buy computers to use programs for their functionality not to run operating systems be in Microsoft Windows, the new Microsoft Vista product , the Mac Operations Systems or the various Linux Operating Systems – be they Ubuntu Linux , Mandiva , Knoppix or Debian.

At the heart of most computer users is functionality and usability. It is as simple as that. It is an interesting situation that the Microsoft Corporation controls the vast lion’s share of the computer operating system market. Indeed it even has a major share holding of the next player in line – Apple with the Macintosh OS (Operating System).

What are the issues?

1) Linux is not really free. Linux, in its various flavors or distros, is given free of charge, whether it is on a cd, DVD or downloaded. You can install the program on your own compute or various computers , at no charge to yourself whatsoever

This is in direct contrast to a commercial product such as Microsoft Windows or the new Microsoft Vista which you to purchase a boxed version or a valid license which comes with most computer systems purchased. This license which comes on most new computers as a matter of course could be referred to as the “Microsoft Computer Tax” and is not an option you can forego, to reduce the purchase of your new compute – whether or not you wish to use another operating system such as Linux.

Linux is given free of charge to install. This is not a shareware or time limited version of the product which requires a registration fee after a period of time.

If you require product support or training commercial organizations do exist which will charge you for support of that product or for training or both. Indeed it can be said that Microsoft itself charges for product support, Symantec the antivirus / security organization charges for basic support by product, subscription fees – sometimes automatic subscription fees and 900 phone number and charge card “Priority Support”.

Indeed you would not expect your local school or technical college to provide computer and compute software training free of charge.

2) Linux is complex and will force you to learn the Linux command line,

Not true simple as that. The various Linux distros all have GUI (Graphic User Interfaces) just like Microsoft Windows, Windows used to come as command line DOS. Windows users use pull down windows to operate the software. So can and do most Linux users

3) Compared to Windows , Installing Linux is Difficult

- The vast majority of computer users are computer neophytes and beginners.

These computer users purchase computers with the operations system Microsoft Windows or the Macintosh Operating System installed on their new computers. These people could not install the Windows Operating system and the device drivers necessary if their life depended on it. How the situation of a Linux is based computer any different.

It is only a matter of time until new computers come preinstalled with the Linux operating system. Imagine if Henry Ford had been told not to build new cars since there were few good roads available in America.

4) My Computer Hardware Just Works Under Windows

5) Again untrue in many cases and soon to be less of an issue as more and more computers will come preinstalled with a Linux operating system. Already Dell Computer (which was a Microsoft stalwart) is selling Linux based laptops. Interestingly the response to the Ubuntu Linux dell notebooks is quite positive, If you think Linux hardware compatibility is an issue try upgrading to the new Microsoft Vista from your previous Microsoft Windows product. You will find to your surprise that few if little of computer hardware are supported. You may have upgraded to the new Vista and found you have either no sound, good video or even internet connections via your network adapter device or wireless network adapter. And try undoing your upgrade to get back to your working windows version – it cannot be done.

Lastly you may say I run Windows since all of the programs I use are available only on the Windows operations system – since that is the dominant player in the market. You may well surmise that since Windows is the more than dominant player in the computer OS market that software developers write their product almost exclusively for the windows operations system and that market.

This is true. If you are using a specialized product for your job, industry, situation or preference you may well be locked in.

In the end most people buy and use computers for functionality and use. Most people use their computers for internet browsing , communication – whether it by email or messenger services (M.S.N. , Yahoo , Skype , Eyeball Chat) , downloading and burning music and in more than many cases for playing nothing more than computer games such as simple solitaire.

In these cases the functionality of Linux and its program base easily allows for this. Indeed many of the cutting edge programs and computer services come out of left field by computer software developers and enthusiasts whose preference of Computer Operating System is guess what – Linux in its various forms.

When you start any application on your Linux system, you may come across with the following error message:

“Program name: error in loading shared libraries: lib xxx…so. X: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.”

After this error message, the application gets terminated unexpectedly and you can not use it any more.

Reason of this problem

This problem occurs with the applications which are using shared libraries. This problem occurs if your computer has incompatible libraries to the applications or the applications and system have mismatched file versions of libraries.

Another reason of this problem could be the corruption to system files. The corruption could be the result of virus attack. Due to corruption, the application could not access the required files and fails to start.

Regardless of the reason, this error message leads to the inaccessibility of your precious data stored on the hard drive and ultimately leads to data loss. For savin your business critical data, it is extremely important to solve this issue as soon as possible.

Resolution

To work around this issue, you can use the following two options:

? If the problem is due to incompatible application or system libraries, update them.

? If it does not work, the problem is due to system file corruption and it needs to reinstall the operating system.

Reinstallation of operating system is the ultimate solution of all the system related problems. But it also has a downside which can lead to data loss. Reinstallation requires hard drive formatting and formatting wipes all the data stored on the drive.

In these situations, you need for something which can perform data recovery Linux to recover your lost Linux data. The data recovery Linux is feasible with the application of Linux recovery software.

Linux data recovery software are the perfect solutios of Linux recovery. They can carry out data recovery Linux in all cases of data loss. These software are highly developed and do fast and effective Linux data recovery.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery software is the best ever made and highly developed Linux recovery software. This software is applicable to each and every case of data loss and executes efficient data recovery Linux.

You can use this Linux data recovery software for all flavors of Linux to recover all sorts of lost files including documents, spreadsheets, library files, application data and many alike. User interface of this Linux recovery software is very cool looking and thus allows you to have trouble-free data recovery Linux.
