Sometimes when you try to install device drivers on your Linux system, you might fail to do it. It could be due to incompatibility of the operating system Kernel with your device driver or device.

To work around this issue, you need to install the latest version of Linux kernel. It may include ‘forcedeth’ patch, which is capable of resolving most of the incompatibility issues.

In some cases, after installing the latest version of Kernel, when you reboot the Linux system, you might face the following error message:

“fsck.ext2: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hda8. The super block could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 file system. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 file system (and not swap or ufs or something else) then the super block is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate super block: e2fsck -b 8193 <device> fsck failed.”

After this error message, neither the system boots nor any file can be accessed.

Grounds of the issue

As stated in the error message, this problem generally occurs due to super block corruption or file system corruption.

è Super block and file system are two most important data structure of Linux system. Proper functioning of both these is required for ensuring effective working of the system.

After corruption, the operating system could not locate the file and thus can not retrieve it.

Resolution

To work around this problem, you need to install a fresh copy of super block and file system. It is possible through formatting of the hard drive and reinstallation of operating system.

Though, it will remove the errors but will also erase all the data stored on your hard drive. It is the worst scenario of data loss and needs Linux data recovery to get it fixed.

Linux data recovery is feasible with the application of third party Linux recovery software known as Linux data recovery software. Linux recovery software is easy to use and thus allow you to have simple and fast data recovery Linux.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most advanced Linux recovery software offered by the data recovery giant- Stellar. This data recovery Linux software works well in all data loss cases and allows Linux data recovery for all sorts of files.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery software is powerful enough to carry out efficient scanning of entire hard drive and extract all lost data from it. The user interface of this software is very interactive and thus does not require any sound technical knowledge from users’ side.

In Linux operating system, file system stores all of the critical information about files located on the hard drive. Without file system, operating system can not locate files stored on hard drive and thus they can not be accessed. This is the top priority for an operating system to ensure that file system is intact. It should not be corrupted for proper accessing of data. Otherwise, all of your critical data on the hard drive would become inaccessible and you come across data loss circumstances.

At this point, it becomes essential to opt for Linux data recovery to retrieve lost, missing or inaccessible data from your Linux hard drive. In a practical scenario, when you try to boot your Linux computer that is using Ext2 file system, you might come across below error message: “EXT2-fs error (device 09:00): ext2_check_descriptors:

Block bitmap form not in group (block 3670099)! EXT2-fs: group descriptors corrupted” In Ext2 file system, Block Groups are the critical components that commutatively create file system and design block group descriptor that is responsible for controlling and managing file creation and accessing tasks. This significant data structure possesses Super Block, Block Bitmap, Inode Table and Inode Bitmap like information that plays a very critical role for Linux data accessing. In case of corruption to these data structures, you need data recovery linux to salvage data from your Linux hard drive.

Root of the problem

This behavior of Linux operating system occurs due to corruption to the block bitmap. Block bitmap works as a map of all the blocks in group. If you run fsck in this situation, you encounter corruption error message, which states that your file system is harshly damaged. If you manage to locate the damaged data structure and can replace it with alternative one, you can make your system functional. But this method does not help you to recover your data. To retrieve valuable data from hard drive, Linux Recovery is required. Recovery is best possible using third party Linux data recovery software. The applications are capable of methodically scanning affected Linux hard drive and extract all of the lost data from it. These tools are completely easy to use as they have interactive and simple graphical user interface. With non-destructive conduct, the applications never alter original data on the hard drive.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the best ever made and the most effective application for absolute recovery. It work well with all major distributions of Linux operating system. The application recovers all lost, missing or inaccessible data from Ext4, Ext3, Ext2 and ReiserFS file system volumes.

Linux and Windows share many characteristics. For example, most people have little interest in knowing how they work. These operating systems make the computer available for the applications that people want to apply; such as running an Internet server, browsing the Internet, creating and accessing data bases, writing programs, playing music, or, or, or. These tasks are coordinated by the operating system and require specialized programs that drive hardware efficiently and correctly. We’ll talk about Linux’s closely integrated “friends” and compare them to the similar but oh so different Microsoft offerings.

The Linux group is called LAMP, an acronym standing for Linux, Apache, MySql, and PHP. There is no similar Microsoft acronym for their set of interacting products. Could that be a symptom of their relatively low level of integration? In contrast Linux is closely integrated with the other LAMP components. In a sense these companions grew up together. Improvements to one component are easily transmitted to the others. These programs are all Open Source meaning that the actual code for all components is readily available. When a problem such as a security breach occurs (don’t let anybody tell you there are no security breaches in Linux and friends) people work on the problem and may post corrections rapidly. Now let’s look at the other LAMP components.

Apache is a highly regarded web server. It has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April, 1996. Believe me, if Microsoft with its virtually unlimited resources cannot dislodge Apache from the top of the pack this software must be doing a lot of things right. Of the four LAMP components Apache is the one that non-specialists are least likely to try to learn. But if you want to play with it, guess how much it costs. You can download a version which will run under Windows but it is unlikely to contain the full functionality. At the time of this writing the Windows version of Apache has some problems concerning its cryptographic functions. Apache is undergoing constant development; its new features, security enhancements, and bug fixes will be available first on the Open Source (LAMP) version. And then filter down to the Windows version.

MySQL is the most popular Open Source Database Management System. The MySQL Community Server is free. The more powerful MySQL Enterprise Server starts at $595 per server per year, a very reasonable price for a commercial product. Microsoft’s competitive database management system is Microsoft SQL Server. Licensing of this software is fairly complicated and believe me, costs a lot, lot more than does MySQL Enterprise Server. Microsoft often makes you pay for purchasing the server and client software and then pay annual server licenses and client licenses for system access.

MySQL runs on a wide range of hardware in conjunction with various operating systems. You can guess from its name that Microsoft SQL Server runs only under Windows. Both of these database management products are constantly upgraded and many technical features that once were available only on SQL Server now run on MySQL. In the past SQL Server clearly surpassed MySQL for enterprise-level systems, while itself often losing out to Oracle or other database management systems. Today’s reality is more complicated and MySQL Enterprise Server manages many huge database systems.

Talking about size, we didn’t finish discussing LAMP components in this article. PHP is the subject of the next one in this series.

A virtual disk is a disk with some characteristics of the general hard drive, in actual it is the emulation of a hard drive where a traditional Linux file system exists on physical disk partition.

Because the virtual disk offers more flexibility of data storage than the divisions, users consider converting all their file system divisions to the virtual disks. After converting divisions to virtual disk, you can access them only via virtual disk nodes.

To migrate to a virtual disk from system based divisions, unmount your Linux file system on the division that you want to convert. Then create simple virtual disk for every division with the help of Virtual Disk Manager. Allocate divisions to virtual disks. The divisions would be removed automatically once the virtual disks are assigned to them.

When the Linux file system is in the simple virtual disk pattern, migration to another array pattern could be wrong without making the drive offline. Always make sure that the divisions are not accessed during migration process.

To simply convert file system divisions to virtual disk we need to follow the following steps:

? Unmount the file system on divisions, which you wish to convert

? For every disk division, choose New from Disk menu, insert a simple virtual disk and allocate divisions to virtual disk. It overlays every division with simple virtual disk.

? For every disk division, choose Modify from Disk Menu and migrate simple virtual disk to desired RAID* type.

? Use File System Manager for updating the information of mounted file system. Replace the divvy** device nodes of file system with their virtual disk ones.

In this way, you easily convert your hard drive to a virtual disk and can take benefit of greater flexibility and improved performance. But if the conversion process gets interrupted by any of the reasons like sudden power failure, irresponsive operating system, operating system crash, unexpected system shutdown or restart because of already mounted volume etc. we may face critical problems of data loss.

Not all Linux systems are licensed to use Virtual Disk Manager. Unfortunately, if your system isn’t licensed and you are trying to convert your partitions, Virtual Disk Manager exits with some error messages.

All these situations put you in trouble of data loss and you need to perform Linux Recovery to overcome this problem. The Data recovery in Linux can easily be achieved using third party applications, known as Linux data recovery software. Linux data recovery software are particularly designed to meet recovery requirements of all Linux users.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery software is a trusted Linux recovery tool, which efficiently recovers your lost, missing and inaccessible data from Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS file systems based hard drives. It supports recovery from all the Linux distributions. Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery has a simple and user-friendly interface, which allows us to have ‘Do It Yourself’ data recovery in Linux.
